“ Noticed this brewery on our way down from the fortress and decided to stop for lunch as I'd tried their beer earlier and enjoyed it. Drinks: Wildshut Malzreigen - Bio spezial dunkel dunkel: I very much enjoyed this premium dark beer, a wonderful malty and sweet flavour with a delicious full body, as only 25cl it was a small portion, but well worth it, I loved it very much and will seek it out as a treat in the future. Stiegl-paracelsus - Bio Zwickl Easy drinking fresh beer, a little happy but still nice, a generous half liter Stiegl 0.0% Zitrone Alkoholfrei My partner had this and drank it, but only said good. Food: They had winter specials on which both appetizers where advertised, a winter salad with roasted pumpkins and cheese, the lettuce was nice and fresh and the fatty cheese went so well with it, like finding gems when sifting sand, and the roasted pumpkin around the outside to add a nice pairing whenever we wanted. Second dish was the pumpkin soup, inexpensive and wonderful, a generous portion with lovely nuts sprinkled on top that added a very nice crunch. The soup was thinned a bit making it gentler than pure pumpkin and a little less filling. Despite both being appetizers shared between two of us, we found this a nice meal and needed nothing else. Atmosphere: Beautiful rustic decor, staircase up to a fountain in the lobby, a little waiting area for a table, you might stand on the stairs if there was a wait. Once inside, nice tall ceilings with beautiful architecture, decorated with many red deer mounts and of course, seasonal Christmas decorations, lovely view a little over the city, a nice feeling of remoteness, you would never know you where so close to town and everyone going to the fortress walked beneath. The padio was also lovely and so well decorated for the season with a small stand for purchasing mulled wine and three tiers of padio with many red balls hanging from every tree, pressent boxes piled on antique sleds and knome shaped trees made for a lovely festive picture on top of the already beautiful view. Staff: Staff was busy and all business, prompt but a little short and no smiles, but not unwelcoming. ”

“ My friend and I flew into Salzburg on 27th September 2025 and stayed for a single night before moving on the following day. Having visited the Restaurant Stiegl‑Keller during that short stay, we both wished we had allowed ourselves more time in the city, as this experience alone left a very strong impression. The restaurant is about a century old, and enjoys spectacular views across the city and towards the nearby Hohensalzburg Fortress. The setting alone makes it worth the visit, particularly if you are looking for somewhere that feels distinctly local while also offering a sense of occasion. The food on offer is centred around hearty, wholesome regional cuisine, prepared to a very high standard. Everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked excellent, and my own choice of the local beef goulash was outstanding. It was rich and comforting, exactly the sort of dish you hope to find when visiting Austria. The beer selection is, unsurprisingly, drawn from the excellent range produced by the Stiegl Brauerei, and includes pilsners, wheat beers, IPAs and more besides. We ordered tasting flights in order to sample a broader selection, which proved to be a great decision and added to the enjoyment of the evening, and seemed to provide some amusement (and encouragement!) from the locals! What truly made the visit memorable, however, was the member of staff who looked after us. I am embarrassed to say that I cannot recall his name but he was friendly, relaxed and welcoming, and patiently allowed me to attempt ordering in my very poor German without ever making me feel awkward or foolish. When we opted for the beer flights, he took the time to talk us through the options, made thoughtful recommendations, and took our personal preferences into account rather than offering a one-size-fits-all suggestion. Had this been the only place we visited in Salzburg, it would still have been more than enough to make us want to return to this restaurant alone. It left us keen to explore more of the city and to sample further Austrian food, drink and hospitality in the future. ”

“ Nice spot with a really good atmosphere and great view of the city. The food was decent overall, nothing mind-blowing but enjoyable. I’d recommend the fish or the veal, both were well-cooked and flavorful. It’s a little on the pricey side, but the setting and vibe make it a nice place to relax and enjoy a meal, especially if you want somewhere with a view. ”
